CHRISTOPHER KIMBALL'S MILK STREET
Milk Street Za'atar Mix
- Za’atar is a naturally-growing wild thyme found throughout the Middle East.
- Most za’atar is an all-purpose blend that includes other herbs.
- The Milk Street Za’atar Blend is livelier and fresher tasting since it includes thyme, sesame seeds, suman, chili peppers, salt, garlic, lemon peel, marjoram, savory, oregano and basil.
- This is the most useful all-purpose herb blend you can use – works on everything from roast chicken and vegetables to scrambled eggs and even salad dressings.
Our Milk Street Za’atar Mix is one-stop flavor shopping. We’ve built on basic za’atar mix—dried herbs, sesame seeds, sumac and salt—with the addition of garlic, Aleppo chili flakes and citric acid for tang. Stir it into Greek yogurt for easy dips, or stuff it under a chicken’s skin before roasting. It's particularly good tossed with sautéed shrimp and lots of lemon juice and butter (figure 2 tablespoons per pound of shrimp).
